I figure I must be missing something. I thought the comment counter should update automatically with each post. But even for the same user It seems I have to refresh page. Must be something simple but I've tried with and without live comments and with WP ajax and without. Any suggestions?

Okay, solved my own problem. You don't get notification of your own post updates (I was testing in two browsers but same user). One does get a live update if another user posts.
