Hi There,

We are using WPML for our translations.

All strings are translated and appear perfectly for all features we are currently using.

However when translating inline comments,  we can translate the "questions" using the shortcode, but they don't appear on translated pages. (nor does the inline comment speech bubble).

I have had WPML look into this and they have asked if the inline comment feature supports multilingual.

Or is there something we are doing wrong?

There is an example where it displays in English under paragraph: 1. La Spezia to Cinque Terre (near the top of the post) but not when the language is switched. The below URL goes to this post.

Any help much appreciated 🙂

Could you please provide us with some screenshots or a video showing how you add inline commenting?

@lsg23

Please edit the page where the inline commenting isn't displaying and generate a new shortcode using the inline commenting button.

So are you saying there is no need to translate the question and for each new language version of the page the inline comment needs to be re-created manually?

So each inline comment will have a unique ID and comments are based individually on each language - correct?

Yes, it works if it has it's own ID.

Does the ID need to be assigned by the wpdiscuz plugin?

OR can I assign it a random (unique) ID?

If this is possible then I can translate the shortcode and update the ID while translating the rest of the post.

The problem is to edit the Shortcode I need to register the Shorcode to an XML config file with WPML. When doing this it creates a problem with saving translations with WPML. The Advanced Translation Editor gets stuck while saving.

(When the shortcode XML registration is removed everything works fine again)

I consulted them regarding this and they have asked me to confirm with wpdiscuz if the Inline commenting (and therefore translation of the shortcodes) is compatible with WPML?

@lsg23

If you generate a unique ID it should work fine.

When the new post is created by the WPML, here should be used the WordPress native functions, so you should not have any issues. If you see some, just edit the post and save it without making any changes, so it should work fine.

Ok thank you, it all works fine now.

So can you confirm that all aspects of the Inline Comments are 100% compatible with WPML (I don't want to tell them it is without confirmation first)

Sorry I just want to confirm the above as WPML have been looking into this and have asked me to follow up with you:

Response from WPML:

Hello there,

It looks like an compatibility issue, can you reach out to the plugin authors and ask if this inline comment feature supports multilingual, we can translate the questions using the shortcode, but it still doesn't appear so we will need to know if it works with multilingual website

You can also ask them to join our compatibility program to create compatibility with WPML:  https://wpml.org/documentation/support/go-global-program/
