Are there any hooks or known code I could use for automatically approving comments left by users in certain roles? Too many of our paying users end up having their comments held for moderation. These are users we trust to leave comments, so I'd' like to make them immune to initial moderation. Thanks for any tips.

You can use the Auto Approve Comments plugin. We've just tested it. Seems the plugin works fine with the wpDiscuz plugin.
